Identify the situational contingencies faced by Coach Boone and Coach Yoast.

In 1970, one white and one black high school are closed due to American desegregation policies. All students are sent to T.C. Williams High School, which is in suburb of Alexandria, Virginia in Washington, D.C.. American Football is a very popular sport in all around the country and it can play a key role to integrate the black and white followers.

Contingency 1:

The school committee decides to hire Coach Boone as head coach replacing Coach Yoast. And committee also makes an offer to Coach Yoast to be an assistant coach. At first, Coach Yoast resists being an assistant Coach under management of Coach Boone. This offer is one of the important situational contingencies, which both coaches have to deal with. They solve these situational contingencies by initiating a new structure. New structure divides team as offence and defense and is employee-centered structure. The aim of new structure is to achieve the goals by sharing responsibilities.

Contingency 2:

A second situational contingency is integrating black and white players and lead them to achieve same goal as a team. Coach Boone and Coach Yoast have different leadership styles. Coach Boone's leadership style is more focused on production, whereas Coach Yoast's leadership style is more focused on players. The combination of these styles fits perfectly to the situational contingencies. For instance, Coach Boone treats all players fairly and shows the equality of black and white players and the only difference between the players can be whether the player is working hard or not. On the other hand, Coach Yoast shows his players' importance by accepting to be an assistant coach, although he has been more successful than Boone as a coach. This inspirational leadership style between the coaches ensures that the trust between the leader and the team combines them around the team's success.

Contingency 3:

The third and the least important situational contingency faced by Coach Boone and Coach Yoast is who will be the captain. Both of them, does not make a decision for this position. Player Gerry Bertier, who is captain of the previous white team, wants this position by showing his self- esteem and honesty. This is a kind of participative leadership. Instead of assigning one player as a captain, they allow the players to make their own decision. As a result, team accepts Gerry as their captain.

Select any one character in the movie and describe his/her leadership style.

Will Patton plays in the role of "Bill Yoast". Will Patton currently stars as Captain Dan Weaver in TNT science fiction series "Falling Skies" to which I am addicted. Due to this reason, I want to criticize Bill Yoast, namely, white coach.

Style of leadership:
