Reflected Appraisal - one of the influences on the development of self-concept. The term refers to a process where we imagine how other people see us. For example, if people treat us as the leader of the group, we take on this role by affirming this identity through the means of their appraisals. In Sex & the City, the final Dolce & Gabana outfit that Carrie tries on is a little bit out of her comfort zone, along with her make-up she knows by looking in the mirror, she perceives herself to look foolish, therefore calls her best friend Samantha because she knows she will tell her the truth. She even calls her self not sexy, cute, but not sexy, this is a form of negative self-talk.

Self-esteem can involve a variety of beliefs about the self, such as the appraisal of one's own appearance, beliefs, emotions and behaviors. In Sex & the City numerous times Carrie thinks that the fashion show is a bad idea because she isn't a model! She talks herself down, talks herself up and eventually compares herself to Heidi Klum!
