To Visit Colleges on Excursion Week

Last week, instead of going to visit colleges on excursion week, I went home to finally get surgery on my knee. It was scheduled on Monday, so I left SVA on Sunday. I had to wake up at 5 in the morning on Monday, without being able to eat anything since 10 p.m. the previous night. The surgery itself only took about an hour and a half, but the preparation and waiting for the doctor to arrive took awhile, so I was only able to get home at around 5 p.m. that day. The medications that they had given me during the surgery made me really tired and kind of nauseous so once I got home I immediately got into bed and passed out until the next morning. When I woke up, I felt the weakness in my leg when I tried to get up to go to the bathroom. It was painful to walk on it at first, but once I took my pain meds it started to feel a lot better and was able to put more pressure on it without causing any serious pain. My observation was that if I spent more time resting and not straining my leg at all, the pain would go away quicker and I would be able to walk again in no time. But the problem was that during my surgery, my doctor found that my ACL was also torn, and this of course was a serious issue because this would prevent me from doing a lot of outdoor activities, such as soccer. My parents were shocked when they found this out because they were only expecting that I had a minor injury, which was the tear of my meniscus, but this showed that the injury was far more serious than we had thought. I was also very shocked and extremely upset when I heard this news because I was planning on getting back to playing soccer and other various outdoor things that I was used to doing. Now according to the doctor, I was restricted to only being able to run and bike ride after about three weeks after the surgery. Even with all of the rest that I acquired, my knee still felt very weak and fragile, and I could feel something was wrong on the left side of my knee, which confirmed the what the doctor had said because that is where the ACL is located. Even though I didn't go on any outdoor education trips or go on any college visits, and with this surprising news that I have a new injury that I didn't know about prior, I still managed to make the best of my week and enjoy my break from school as much as I could. Of course, for the first couple days I couldn't go outside of my house because it was just physically impossible for me to walk without any help of crutches
