Personal Perspective Paper 2
As I am getting older and are taking on more challenges in life, I need the right tools to make sure that I succeed. I want to thrive in two main areas of my life, personally and professionally. The only way I know I can attain this is to further my education and get my masters degree. "Thousands of careerists have discovered that earning a master's of business administration (MBA) is the right choice to make their dreams a reality." (Jeter, L.)
Deciding to get my master's degree was not taken lightly. I have put a lot of time and effort into this decision. I checked out different schools and looked at the differences in pay grades in specific careers that I would like to pursue. I know firsthand how much I am going to have to apply myself into getting this degree. Managing school, work, and family is going to be a formidable task as I have already done it with my Bachelor's degree, when I was younger. My family was going through a rough time period when my brother past away after some difficulties with his health. During this time I was juggling two jobs, classes, baseball and tennis in college.
I was just recently married and I need to make sure that my family is secure financially. In order to bring this about, I need to make myself as indispensible as possible and more appealing in the job market. "An M.B.A. shows employers that [you] have cleared certain hurdles and are more mature." (Alleyne, S., & Riley, K.J.) I want to be capable and knowledgeable and stand out amongst my peers.
The more knowledge that I gain by finishing my MBA I hope to get promoted into challenging positions within a company. "There's strong evidence that earning an executive MBA can boost your career. Last year, 43% of students enrolled in executive MBA programs received promotions, up from 34% in 2004, according to the Executive MBA Council, a non-profit schools association in Orange, Calif.
