Bands of the 60's and 70's
Most of the best music to date was made in 1960-70. Three of the best bands were Led Zeppelin, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and the Grateful Dead.
Led Zeppelin was a British rock band that became one of the most popular and influential musical groups of all time. The band debuted in 1968. The members were Jimmy Page on guitar, John Bonham on drums, John Paul Jones on bass and keyboards, and Robert Plant on vocals. They had many great songs, and contributed greatly to future music. To date, the group is reported to have sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. In December 1980 the group disbanded
The Jimi Hendrix Experience was very important to American culture. The members were Jimi Hendrix on guitar, Mitch Mitchell on drums, and Noel Redding on the bass. Though initially conceived as Hendrix's backing band, The Experience soon became much more than that. They were one of the first groups to popularize the "power trio" format. In June of 1969, Jimi decided to break up the group.
The Grateful Dead was an American Hippy-influenced rock band formed in San Francisco in 1965. The Grateful Dead have had a lot of members over the years but the main musician was guitarist Jerry Garcia. There most famous song was "Casey Jones". The band fell apart after the untimely death of Garcia on August 9, 1995. From the Grateful Dead we get the term "deadhead" which used to mean a grateful dead fan, but has come to mean any hippy.
These are the three greatest bands of the 60's if not of all time. All are all as popular now as they were then.
