2-The development of Chief Bromdem was inevitable. As soon as McMurphy arrived at the ward the chief was intrigued by the way he was. Since the very beginning McMurphy started to work on the chief's character. The fact that he had to act deaf and dumb in order to not face reality is enough to show that he was very weak. As the development story went on the chief developed also. McMurphy started to give him confidence the first step in the this was the concept of voting. "Come on chief all we need is one more vote, don't be afraid." This was the first step to giving the chief confidence. Slowly the chief was getting better the more time that he spent by McMurphy the more confidence He gained. As he started to change he realized that he was not as weak as he thought he was. The fog which was once his friend now became his enemy. Once he waited for the fog to come with open arms , this was in order to not face reality. Now after his gradual changing he tries to fight the fog in order to see reality. He no longer wants to be in a world of fiction , but now he wants to see and feel his souroundings. This shows that the chief's character is progresing. McMurphy is the key to the chief's progrations by his actions against the uniformity he gives chief confidence to become an individual. The others in the ward no longer believe that the chief is deaf and dumb. This ultimately leads to the surprise ending of the story. The ending is the complete development of the chief's character. It can be said that the chief can now survive in the real world. He is no longer a mental case , he is now a full capable strong and alert man in society.
