Charles-Louis de Secondat, Baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu Known as Baron Montesquieu lived during the Enlightenment Era and played a huge role in the development of the Enlightenment Era. Baron Montesquieu was born on January 18th , 1689 in La Brède, France. Baron attended Catholic College of Juilly.Baron Montesquieu was a French lawyer, a man of letters, and a political philosopher. Baron was mainly known for his Separation of Powers which consisted of the power being split up into branches. Judicial , legislative , and executive. There were sovereign branches and administrative branches. The administrative branches were the executive,legislative, and judicial branches . He is also known for making the terms feudalism and Byzantine empire popular. Montesquieu’s reasoning for splitting up the powers is so that there is not too much power and the government becomes corrupt. Montesquieu even promoted it to the French monarchy and France actually used it in their country to balance the power between each other, and it worked. Things were going smoothly for the french thanks to Baron Montesquieu's ideas. Overall Montesquieu played a huge role in the Enlightenment Era. Montesquieu’s ideas even led to what we have right now in the United States we also have these branches all thanks to Montesquieu. When Montesquieu wrote “The Spirit of the Laws” and pointed toward the Bill of rights as an model of the government, He also had the idea that Punishments not be excessive , but should be moderate and should fit the crime.
Citizens should respect the beliefs of others and practice religious toleration. Which is what we have in the United States right now.
