Children's Hospital of San Diego

The projects office monitors the flow of projects through the organization and ensures that all projects receive administrative, scientific and the appropriate ethical reviews. This group also evaluates projects for feasibility of implementation and monitors compliance with research policies and procedures. The office of grants and contracts assists investigators with application submissions to funding agencies as well as providing guidance and oversight of post-award expenditures. This group is also responsible for ensuring compliance with grants administration policy and procedures.

Children's maintains their credibility by abiding by strict regulations. One of the most powerful safeguards of nonprofit integrity is individual donors and members. Since their main source of financial assistance is derived through grants, the Department of Accounting is monitored through external audits by the funding organizations. For example, money is granted to a specific department to carry out its organizational objective. After the money is spent, receipts are then forwarded to the accounting department for verification. After all the receipts are collected, the accounts are reconciled to avoid any discrepancies. Reports are then created and forwarded to the grantors to show proof of proper use of grants. This method of checks and balances ensures integrity, while showing the progress made by Children's to the funding organization.
