The purpose of Strategic Information Systems Planning in today’s business environment is to study organizational information needs, identify strategic opportunities and develop a plan to address those information needs. I need to agree with Earl point of view when he said that “for many IS executives, strategic information systems planning (SISP) continues to be a critical issue” in current business atmosphere, because its implication on the success of the modern enterprises is highly important. (Mathews, 2006).

Nowadays information affects the way enterprises do business, so a good Strategic Information Systems Planning will help companies to find the correspondents competitive advantages that may help them to maintain their business leadership positions. Now the fact for all companies must be “we need to now how to compete”.

As I say, I justly agree with the fact that SISP is one of the most important issues that managers need to attack. The changes that are present inside the business world are demanding a change in the way managers assume information. Those changes are as fast as, that if companies don’t have a good Strategic Information Systems Planning, they can be in default right away.

Strategic systems planning is supposed to be performed by the organization’s senior management and is not undertaken as an end in itself. Most companies’ managers in Dominican Republic are unaware of this issue and think that an effective strategic in not as important as it is.
