The composers explore the concept that physical journeys allow the individuals to undergo the process of self-discovery. Physical journeys imply the individuals undergo the process of self discovery. It involves the individual themselves to travel from one location to another, encountering obstacles, challenges, events and new opportunities.
The prescribed text "Drifters" and "Last seen 12:10am" by Bruce Dawe from the collection "Sometimes Gladness" explores the concept of a physical journey, as the personas take on various obstacles that may challenge the characters way of thinking, acting or speaking. Other related texts which explore the concept of physical journey include the picture book "We're going on a bear hunt" by Michael Rosen and also the film "Shrek" directed by Andrew Adamson. Both texts convey this as the characters actually undertake a physical journey that require endure an adventurous mission to find a particular discovery. The composers of these texts convey the notion of physical journeys through a diverse use of film, visual and language techniques including; vectors, camera shots, colours, symbolism, simile and alliteration. The characters in all texts experience challenges which are forced upon them are obstacles, that lead them to undergo a process of self-discovery.
The composer of "We're going on a bear hunt" displays the notion of fulfilment along with the process of self discovery. Throughout barriers, characters realise what is right from wrong. In the picture book, "We're going on a bear hunt" by Michael Rosen, presents characters facing several obstacles including the grass, wind, mud and caves. The colours blue, yellow and green convey the mood of the characters; which are cheerful, bright and excited. The last line of the book, "we're not going on a bear hunt again", suggest that the characters have seen the reality of mother nature and have also undergo a process of self discovery. The text relates to journey as the characters discover and overcome new challenges, obstacles and opportunities that may question the personas way of thinking or acting.
On the other hand, Bruce Dawe's poem "Drifters" communicates and fulfils the understanding of self discovery and also the idea of the individual experiencing change and movement. By undertaking change and movement, the persona faces the challenges such as loss of belonging and identity. The poem "Drifters", exhibits a nomadic family who are constantly travelling to no specific location. It makes use of repetition in the second stanza, the word 'and' shows a rising effect, allowing for a build up in suspense and tension. Symbolism is demonstrated in the fourth line, as "Green tomatoes" indicates the lack of time they have spent in location. This shows the process of change and movement, which conveys a sense of inner self-discovery.
Self discovery is conveyed in the film, "Shrek" directed by Andrew Adamson. The film demonstrates an enlightening and motivational journey, in which the persona begins to discover an inner self process of appreciation and acceptance of the way they are. Even
