Katrina's Kitchen and How It Helped Hurricane Victims

Located on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, amidst the devastation and debris, is a place of peace, hope, caring, love and comfort. This place is God's Katrina Kitchen, the result of God calling people from across the nation and beyond to serve.

Their motto, "Many Churches, One God", is true here. Many churches and denominations are working together, not under any specific organization, but under The One True God. Good food and Good News for all.

God's Katrina Kitchen is much more than a place, which provides food. They provide meals to the many church, college/university, and other volunteer groups. They also feed contract workers, military, local law enforcement, ambulance and fire personnel, as well as local residents. We have served as many as 1,223 people during a single meal.

God's Katrina Kitchen also sends both skilled and unskilled volunteer work teams into the communities. These work teams provide services such as property clean up, gutting houses, roofing, construction, electrical, and etc. They are helping rebuild the lives of the many survivors of Katrina.

God's Katrina Kitchen has nightly services, featuring praise and worship, special music, testimonies, and speakers from all around the nation and beyond.

The people run God's Katrina Kitchen by using volunteers. There are 20-30 long-term volunteers keeping everything going with the help of short-term volunteer groups. God's Katrina Kitchen runs only on volunteers and donations.

They have recently shut down our distribution center, where we were distributing clothing, household supplies, and groceries to the many locals who are still recovering from Katrina. Their focus will now be given to rebuilding and continuing to feed the locals and volunteers.

If you would like to have a life changing experience serving others, they would love to have you or your group as volunteers. Come work in the service of God at God's Katrina Kitchen.

Even during celebrations like Christmas, Easter, and Halloween Katrina's Kitchen decorates just so it will feel a little livelier.
