Nicolaus Copernicus' theory of the solar system, or an earlier version of the heliocentric theory states that the sun is in the center of our solar system and everything else revolves around it. He challenged the belief of the earth being was the center of the universe and the solar system revolved around it. A polish astronomer named Nicolaus Copernicus first challenged the geocentric theory in the 16th century. He constructed an astronomical model where he positioned the sun in the middle motionless, and the earth and other planets revolving around the sun. Of course, this created a lot of controversy within the Catholic Church because the Catholic Church firmly believed in the geocentric theory, which stated that the earth revolved around the sun.
Copernicus' theory of the solar system is that the earth was one of the seven planets revolving around the sun, the rotations of the earth, the distances of planets are compared by the stars, and Retrograde motion of the planets is explained by Earth's motion. To further explain his hypothesis Copernicus constructed an astronomical model, later called the Copernican model where he tries to explain why and how our planets revolve around the earth instead of the sun.
