Manly Man

The standard of what society considers" a man" has changed over the decades. In the 60's, you had do be a gentleman. In the 70's, you had to do drugs. Now it is cool to be fearless and crude.

According to society's standards, to be considered a "man", you have to be successful (nice car, big house, expensive things, a lot of money, high paying job), have beautiful women, and be self-centered. There is a disadvantage that society hardly notices about these three standards. If you had to be "successful" to be a man, you might forget about God, family and friends. If every man had to have a beautiful wife, a lot of women could die trying to achieve the goal of being beautiful by getting plastic surgery or other methods of achieving beauty. If a man is self-centered and greedy, he may end up lonely and without friends.

Paul's standards for a man are totally opposite in my opinion. According to Paul the Apostle, to be a man you must help people in need, respect your wife and family, and cling to what is good. In Romans 15:2 it says," Let us please our neighbors for the good, for building up." If all men helped out others in need, perhaps there would be an end to poverty and starvation. The divorce rate in America is over 50% which may be because men pick wives that are good looking but do not actually love them. In Ephesians 5:33, Paul says, " However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." If more people had respect in their marriage, there would be less divorce in our country. Paul says in Romans 12:9&17, "Hate what is evil...be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody." If more people did the right thing, the world would have less crime or maybe none at all.

In my opinion, I would have to agree on both Paul's vision of a man and society's vision of a man. I believe a man should be successful because if you're successful that shows you worked your whole life and achieved the goal that you set. I also believe that a man should respect women for not what she looks like but what's inside. If you respect your wife, she will respect you and you will be happy for the rest of your lives. One last thing that I think a man should be is physically strong. If you are
