Summary:
This story begins with a house on a terrible stupid Thursday. Arthur woke up this morning and didn't feel very good. He got up and went into the bathroom looked out of the window and saw a bulldozer. Then he went into the kitchen to eat something and meanwhile the word bulldozer wandered through his mind. Suddenly he understood everything and fifteen seconds later he was lying in front of.
Mr. L. Posser stood nearby the bulldozer and was very angry about this situation. He had to tear up Arthur Dent's house and didn't want to speak with a crazy man who lied in front of the bulldozer, but Arthur Dent didn't want to go away so he tried to tell him what's going on.
Yesterday Arthur's world was as boring as usual but no one wanted to tear up his house!
Suddenly Ford Perfect came along and wanted Arthur to come with him to have a drink because he wanted to tell him something very important and it seemed like Ford didn't understand the situation. Sometimes Ford is very strange but that's like this because he's an alien from the planet Betelgeuse Five and he's only on the earth because of one reason: he wants to improve the book "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" but he stranded on the earth. When Arthur told him what's going on Ford asked Mr. Posser to lie in front of the bulldozer instead of Arthur because they have to speak about something very important. Mr. Posser couldn't believe his ears but he did it no plan why. Ford knew that he would do it because he learned to concentrate on something so hard that the other person realizes that its will begins to weaken.
Arthur didn't really realize why to have a drink at about eleven o'clock but he was so confused that it was not so important for him. He told Arthur that he should drink up because its muscle relaxant and he needs to be relaxed for what Ford wants to tell him. After Arthur drank up Ford told him everything about himself. That he's from another planet and why he's here and that the world is going go under, but Arthur didn't believe it and he realized that the bulldozer is going to tear up his house he ran out of the pub and to his house as fast as he can. He didn't realize anything around him because if he had he would have seen the huge yellow thing. There were lots of it in the sky and no one on the earth knew what to do. There was no place where they could hide or something like that. It becomes very silent on the earth there was only a world wide muttering and only one person knew what's going on. Suddenly a loud voice told the world that the world has to be teared up because it's going to be built a hyper spatial express through the star system and the earth is one of the planets who is planned
for demolition and that the planning cards and demolition orders have been on display in your local planning department in Alpha Cantauri for fifty years. After that there was a terrible ghastly silence followed by a terrible ghastly noise and again silence.
Meanwhile far away Zaphod Beeblebrox speded across the seas of Damogran, his ion drive delta boat winking and flashing in the Damogran sun.
Zaphod got to be the president of the imperial galactic government and everybody knows that it is a good job for people like him but they do not understand why he wanted to be the president because the president of the imperial galactic government has nothing to say and no power, but only circa 6 people know this and that he only has to have a fascinating character. He flies to Damogran because it is the dock for the greatest ship ever, the "Ò'Heart of gold", and he wants to steal the ship, but everybody thinks that he flies there to make a speech.
When he came to the planet there was a receipt committee for him. It was a good show but they did not know what he wanted to do. In the middle of the people there was Trillian, his girl friend, who got picked up by him from earth. When he wanted to make the speech he realized that his notes were away so he began three times with "Hi!"
