Women in the 1920's
Women's lives in the 1920's changed dramatically. Everything from clothes to attitudes were affected in this unique time of the century. Jobs became available, clothing trends changed, and all of it was affected by the new attitude that was arisen.
First, jobs were greatly relied upon by the women in the war and they became, for the first time, readily available in peace time. They were given what were usually considered as "men's" jobs such as working in factories. In addition, payment was equally spread to the women and the men unlike in the time of war. Pre-made clothes and pre-canned foods were available giving women extra time to get out and make money.
Next, styles of clothes became much less "proper" and more "defiant" . Before this time even showing the ankles made you thought of as easy and immoral. People such as clappers wore skirts up to an inch above the knees. (OH NO!) No more poofy dresses and baggy clothes, people wore short heavily beaded short skirts. The hair trends changed from a once-a-lifetime cut to short above the shoulders cut that defied most adult morals and gave headway for new defiant trends.
Next, people's social behavior changed. Even talking about dating (or even dating for that matter) was unheard of before the 20's. Girls started asking guys out which was almost unspoken of before. Also, girls started going on unshapperoned dates without using the "Speak when your spoken too belief."
Last, with all the readily made materials out there, women's homelife was changed. Less work = more time; more time = freedom; more freedom = L. (or so many thought) Many started do extra things like playing sports and going to collage.
All in all, the 1920's was a time of very big changes for the women in that time. They wanted =ism and they almost achieved it. As women's rights grow however, so does more radical views from men and women.
