Option 2: A Monstrous Encounter Erika Warren

Epics can happen in real life as well as in mythical stories, and moments like these can really impact one's life and create moments of epiphany. Dreams can often impose on one's reality, and help us to overcome our fears. Let me narrate the moment where I had to defeat a perilous monster in the storage room.

We live in an old flat situated above a peaceful cemetery in Hong Kong called Happy Valley. My father had purchased this apartment long ago with all "Bells and Whistles" meaning the antique Moroccan Lamp and the antique furnishings that came along with it. The house always had a musty smell about it and the decors still remind me of my trip to Morocco a few years ago.

My least favorite room in this apartment is a dark and damp windowless space near the back of the flat. Alongside it is a beautiful old antique Rosewood cabinet with two intricately carved doors that would often creak when set foot on. Also, on the bottom of this old cabinet are two long pull-out drawers. Something else intriguing about this old cabinet is the thin pane of mirror nailed on the inside door that seems to have lasted throughout the centuries.

Strange things would happen from time to time near this storage area which I would blame it on a careless action of a family member, or possibly even that of a huge rat with a voracious appetite; thing often seems to go missing. Sometimes candy wrappers were found scattered messily around the cabinet like fallen leaves in the autumn. Splashed milk sometimes was found in little puddles here and there, like that of a recent rainfall after a storm. Stacked newspapers and magazine would mysteriously fall off the top of the cabinet as well as if rocked by an earthquake. Even the lights on the ceiling would flicker eerily in the storage room just like a lost captain signaling for rescue in a desperate attempt to be saved on the stormy seas. However, I tend to think that all these images are merely caused by my wild imagination.

That night, I had a dream. The harvest moon was a great pumpkin in the sky. The storage room door that was always opened was somehow mysteriously closed. I found it to be quite strange since this door has never been closed before. I turned on the dim light in the hallway which led into the storage room and quickly grabbed a flashlight and a little mirror for further investigation. I turned the handle and pushed hard against something that was blocking the door. For a short moment, I froze there with fright. I realized that my wild imagination was becoming reality as I started to feel a chill go down my spine.
