A War Story
I am at war. Sorry that was too quick. I’ll start from the beginning of my life before it went downhill. I mean my life went down faster than a mud slide on a steep mountain. My name is Charlie. My friends, the few I have, call my Charles. I am 18. Yes, I am an adult and love my life well until it crashed like a huge bomb. I am a smart, funny, and friendly guy. Popular? No not quite like that, but close enough in my mind. My friend’s names are Parker and John. They are the best and got me through this hard time. I am surprised my mind now can think all of this after what happened.
Life is good. School is going well. I am now in cross country. I run a lot and in great shape. I race with my friends and always win but it’s fun. Life was good that day and it was going well. Now it’s lunch time and I am walking with my friends to sit outside, we walk past the office and there are two guys in army uniforms talking to them. I ask my friend John, “What do you think they are here for?” John responds to me while laughing a little, “Don’t worry probably just army or government stuff, we don’t need to worry or care about any of it.” I nod my head not saying anything back. We eat lunch then separate going to our classes. Spanish class is so boring and I can’t take it. I must be good because I have an A in the class. It’s halfway through class when one of the office people comes in and asks the teacher, “Could I please have Charlie?” The teacher responds, “Yes you can, and Charlie the homework is online.” I answer politely, “Yes ma’am thank you.” Then I nervously go with the office person leading me all the way down. My thoughts are racing with questions, why am I going down here? Does it have to do with the army guys? Am I in trouble? There are so many questions running through my head I don’t realize I am just standing in front of the office door looking down doing nothing.
I look up and see the army officers. One speaks, “Hello sir my name is Sargent Ace and my partner Sargent Barrack, I am sorry to tell you that you were picked to fight for your country.” They both look at me like they feel so bad for me. It makes me feel terrible. The feeling is awful knowing that I have to fight and die for this country. This news is so shocking that all I am able to say is yes sir while tears start to stream down my face. Sergeant Ace tells me that they will wait here for me to be done with school and they will take me to base 9-678. The rest of the day is a blur, I cry the rest of class ignoring all of the questions people are shooting at me. I quickly pack up and leave with them.
