About Overcoming Obstacles in Life

This book teaches the child about overcoming obstacles in life, being grateful, having integrity, and friendship. Rosa and her family are Latinos who are poor and travel from place to place in order to find work so they can survive. Rosa resents this and hates that she has to keep changing schools every time her dad and mom need to find more work. She gets teased in the new schools she has to attend because she doesn't have pretty clothing,talks with an accent, and at times can't keep up with her English speaking classmates. She never has friends, feels all alone, and hates going to school. The family moves to Washington for work and there Rosa meets a nice, friendly girl and they become best friends. She ends up going to the Christian school her best friend attends and learns about God, how to pray, and how much God loves her. Rosa ends up in some exciting situations at differents times in the book. At one point, Rosa ends up disobeying her parents and lying to them and gets herself into world of trouble. She realizes she should not have lied to her parents and asks God and her parents to forgive her. Rosa finds her own self value and realizes being Latino and speaking another language has value to her and to others.
