The Deparment of defence defines accountability as the obligation imposed by law or lawful order or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping accurate record of property, documents, or funds. The person having this obligation may or may not have actual possession of the property, documents, or funds. Accountability is concerned primarily with records, while responsibility is concerned primarily with custody, care, and safekeeping

Accountability is a pivital part of all military operations. Being to formation on time is a part of accountability. If you are not in accountability formation the your supervisor does not know where you are and if you are safe and well. If you are going to be late to formation or not able to make it then you need to call a supervisor and let them know so they are aware of the situation. If you supervisor is aware then he or she may be able to assign your task to someone else so that the mission can continued and will not be compromised.
