"Transformative learning, which is considered a constructivist theory of adult learning, was strongly influenced by the work of Jack Mezirow. Transformative learning helps adult learners understand their experiences, how they make sense or meaning of experiences, the nature of the structures that influence the way they construe experience, the dynamics involved in modifying meanings, and the way the structures of meaning themselves undergo changes when learners find them to be dysfunctional" Knowles, (2011).

A transformational learning experience that I have gone through is my breakup with my boyfriend/father of my child. We had been together for four years and within those four years I had a baby girl. Everything was going great until the baby turned 6 months and he decided that he could not handle the responsibility of taking care of his family, so we called it quits.

It was very hard and stressful being a single parent and a new parent. There were days that I did not know how I was to get through the day. When we called it quits, he did not help me take care of his child at all and he was the one that was employed and I was unemployed. There were months past that he did not even acknowledge us.

It was very hard to adjust to the new life that I had created, but I knew I had to find a solution for my daughter's sake. So after all the heartache and pain and tears I decided to get my life back on track. I noticed the problem, faced the problem, and acknowledged it. So I decided to go back to school to further my education so I can be able to provide for me and my child. I enrolled at Everest University and majored in Criminal Justice and it took me a year and six months to earn my Associates degree in criminal justice.

Then I decided to earn my Bachelor's degree in criminal justice and the process is still continuing. I have a part-time job at the school where my daughter goes to school and I have my own apartment. I can honestly say that without the help from my mother I do not think I would have been able to survive the problems that I was going through. As time passed I grew stronger everyday as a woman and as an individual.

In conclusion, I went through the toughest things in my life and I manage to overcome all the obstacles that were thrown at me. I have learned that it takes motivation and determination to get your life together and move on from the negative people and the negative energy.
