One of the major problems among the youth of our society is substance abuse. One of the main substances that are abused among teens is alcohol. Alcohol is currently becoming one of the most frequent issues in our society among teens. The common answer teens give when asked why you drink alcohol. Their answer is that they wanted to fit in with their peers.
As an offender of the University of Dayton alcohol policy I regret my actions for the incident I was involved in. Through the test I took online I have become well aware of statistically how I fit into the student body at the University of Dayton. While looking at the results of my online alcohol test, I have realized that I consume too much alcohol when I shouldn't be consuming any alcohol at all. Even though I have heard of several binge drinking stories at various universities. Also Harvard's studies show that teens are among the heaviest drinkers in society. I always thought I wasn't a binge drinker and I would never even consider me being in the situation that I am in now.
The night started by me going to a hairy buffalo party with my friends. Hairy buffalo is an alcoholic mixture mixed with fruit juices that in result taste almost like fruit punch. The reason for the beverage is so that no one can taste the alcohol. Due to the likeable taste I had several cups of this mixture. After this we proceeded into the ghetto were we continued to drink at a house were I got into an altercation with another individual. After the fight the University of Dayton police were notified and solved the problem. This incident was totally out of character for me. I usually never act in violence against anyone. I think another side effect of alcohol is that it is has the capability to change a person's behavior or the way they act socially with their
peers. There are a lot of stories of alcohol related rapes. Due to these recent issues involving alcohol even the brewing companies are starting to promote responsible drinking.
I have several reactions to the assessment given by this program. I found the information given by this program informative. It is amazing how I compared to the statistics of the other students at Dayton. I was shocked that I was such a high percentage risk for alcohol related problems. These problems could be depression or anxiety or a bunch other health related issues. I know as incoming freshman one of the things that excited me was no parental supervision. I remember my friends and I would always talk about how awesome the parties were going to be in college. Another reaction that I had to this program is that I don't think all the information given is entirely true. For example, my test results show that if I continue to drink as much as I drink now I will have serious social and health related problems. I find that very statement to be false. I know binge drinking is a major problem but after college most people don't drink nearly as much on weekends. My final reaction to this program is now I know how big a problem binge drinking is for certain individuals what can I do to help.
Some of the reasons I choose to drink are mostly reflected by what I saw in society when I was growing up. As kid I remember my dad drinking beer while watching football, I remember watching movies with party scenes where everyone was drinking and having a good time. I also have two older brothers who drink and they always would tell me how fun the parties are. In our society today drinking is also promoted by a lot of popular shows that are directed towards teens.
