AN OVERVIEW OF ZINDAGI TRUST

An initiative of Shehzed Roy, ZINDAGI Trust was not another run of the mill project that ran out of steam after an album release. Mr. Roy's entrepreneurial spirit has sparked a revolution in the Pakistan's educational system that will bear fruits for many generations to come.

Mission

We plan to achieve our vision and purpose by committing to the following mission:

Ð'* To establish a high quality vocational training program for working children of Pakistan.

Ð'* To continue to provide formal education for working children enrolled in Trust's program.

Ð'* To make a significant contribution in the social development of the working children and their families by providing them a more meaningful and tangible vocational skills and knowledge.

Ð'* To create an institution known for its commitment to the cause and providing a platform for employees and stakeholders to excel in their mission.

Vision

We will be a leader in providing opportunities to a better life through education to the underprivileged working children of Pakistan.

The Trust is currently involved in three major projects

1. I am paid to learn

2. Mother and child health care project

3. Girls secondary school

1. I AM PAID TO LEARN

This project is geared towards the urban working children, providing monetary compensation by giving them a fixed stipend of Rs 10/- daily in exchange for the time they take out from their every day jobs to attend any of our 34 schools across the country. With this project, Zindagi Trust is trying to make a difference in the society. The education imparted to these children would help them to assimilate with the mainstream society and become useful citizen of Pakistan.

Opening System:

Academic System:

Ð'* Academic Term (Four and a half months)

Ð'* School timings (Daily Four hours with Saturdays off)

Ð'* Summer Vacations (June and July)

Ð'* Winter Vacation (15 th December to 15 th January)

Selection of Students:

Ð'* Data of the students is collected by Nazim.

Ð'* An application form for admission is filled up by the parent/guardian of the student.

Ð'* Each form is accompanied by a copy of parents' / guardians / NIC, Form B or Birth Certificate (verifying the students age) and a copy of the recently paid electricity bill, duly attested by area sub Nazim.

Ð'* Source of parents' income is verified by the Nazim.

Ð'* Screening of the students is performed by a representative of the Trust along with local volunteers.

Ð'* Number of students for each class is restricted to 30.

Project Monitoring

Each school progress is monitored in the following manner:

Ð'* The assigned field officer visits the schools at least twice a week, where he records his views on the visitors' book, provided for each school.

Ð'* The Field Officer checks the daily attendance register of the students, daily diaries maintained by the teachers as well as the progress reports of the students based on monthly test cards, etc.

2. MOTHER AND CHILD HEALTH CARE PROJECT

This project aims at provide quality healthcare, to the underprivileged children in the heart of rural Sind. The focus is primarily on Mother and Child health.

The desert of Thar and close to the rural mainland of Hala, Sanghar, Tando Adam and Tando Allahyar, village Sultanabad near the town of Shahdadpur have been selected as a starting point for health sector activities of ZINDAGI.
