1. Read and study the case thoroughly.

Training schedule, orientation, manuals, policy booklets, physicals, drug tests, and a host of other issues

Read the case again, and highlight all relevant facts

Some of the new trainees did not have applications completed or their transcripts on file, and none of them had been sent to the clinic for the mandatory drug screen. He then searched the orientation manuals and found only three copies with several pages missing from each. He decided to check out the training room for the orientation, but the room was reserved for then entire month of June.

2. Define the problem(s).

Identify the key problems or issues in the case.

Carl has about 2 weeks to prepare the orientation for his new hires. Starting out from May 31 to June 14, he must have everything that was required to be on file such as their complete applications, transcripts, and result of their drug tests. Furthermore, he must have everything ready for himself and for he new hires on the orientation day such as the power point for presentation which covers the company's policy, maybe an orientation video so the new hires would have a little bit of an idea about the company that they are about to be working for like the kind of industry that its in, maybe discuss other issues that are essential to new hires, and test(s) that might be required to evaluate the new hire's strengths and weaknesses individually.

3. Select a focus for your analysis by identifying the key issues and their causes.

Determine how to focus your analysis. Narrow the problem(s) you have identified to between two and five key issues. Once you have focused on one or two key issues, try to gain a fuller understanding of their causes.

The key issues:

1) The power point for presentation which covers the company's policy

2) An orientation video so the new hires would have a little bit of an idea about the company that they are about to be working for like the kind of industry that its in

3) Discuss other issues that are essential to new hires

4) Test(s) that might be required to evaluate the new hire's strengths and weaknesses individually.

Why do these problem(s) exist?

These problems exist because they are new hires, they do not know the company's policy, company doesn't know its new hires actual strengths or weaknesses. Therefore, allowing a thorough orientation through video and to have one or two persons to host throughout the orientation in the case of difficult questions that be may arisen.

What caused them?

The complexity of the company's structure causes such requirement. Complexity means the policy, the values, its technological availabilities, and etc...Indeed, required to understand, to be able to follow, and to be able to meet each job's minimum requirement to avoid unnecessary mistake on the job.

What is the effect of the problem(s) on the organization or the relationships

among individuals in the organization?

If new hires were not well trained or has not been providing a proper orientation, numerous possibility that will effect the organization or even the relationships among individuals in the organization like the differences from individual opinions and lack of team work
