Andragogy vs. Pedagogy
"I never teach my pupils. I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn." -Albert Einstein" To me this quote favors both concepts of andragogy and pedagogy. Even though they both have difference as Malcolm Knowles describes in his book.
The art and science of helping children learn and how they are taught is pedagogy. The way children learned is different than the way adults learn now. Children are instructor led and are externally motivated by just winning a prize. At a small age children are like a sponge they soak in everything. It's the best time to teach them what they need to know or even a new language. Unlike adults it takes time and more effort from there part if they want to learn and delicate themselves to learning. Everyone is educated it's just up to them if they want to learn. Malcolm Knowles concept of learning is not all right, like all children can learn at the same pace and are totally alike. But that's not true not all children are the same. Each child has their way of learning and a different pace of learning. Some may have more experience others depending on whoever taught them. The instructor is not responsible for all aspects of the learning process because it depends on the child if he wants to learn. The way children learn and adults learn are different because a child is more content-centered then subject-centered like adults.
Adult learning and six concepts Malcolm Knowles says how we adults learn, and I agree with these concepts because as a child I think learning was more easily then now as adults. Motivation is a big deal as an adult learner because without it you just lose interest and will not push you to the limits. As adults we are more mature and dependent we have control on what experience we gain from what we learn. When we learn it is more problem centered then subject centered; we focus on what interest us then what doesn't.
Now that I am in college some of the assumptions from Malcolm Knowles that affects me is motivation. I want to be successful and graduate college to become a registered nurse; there just sometimes that I lose my motivation because I'm not too interested in the class I'm in like history. It's so boring to me that I wish I didn't have to take it but it's a must have. I just keep going because I want to give a better life to my son. Another
