Animal Farm

1. Animal Farm is a Farm and that all the animals are controlled by the humans. Then the boar Old Major tells the animals to rebel against the humans and take control of the Animal Farm themselves. So they rebel and the pigs make themselves leaders of the Animal Farm. Life is peaceful on the Animal Farm. The animals work hard for the food and start to make a windmill. But soon things get worse as Napolean and Squealer get corrupted by power and soon make the animals bid to their will and no animal defies them. Soon the pigs slowly interact with the humans and slowly enjoy being with the humans and the animals see that the pigs are no better than the humans. The animal farm is like a civilization and that the government controls how the way things work around the place like the food distributed easily among the people and the rulers overlook the civilization. I think Orwell chose this setting for his story because just like how Soviet Russia was a hierarchy before the people overthrew the Tsar and turned the country into a communist state. The people were sick of Tsar being treated like slaves, so they overthrew Czar. Just like in Animal Farm, Old Major rallies up the animals to overthrow Mr. Jones and the rest of the humans and they did. The farm fits the definition of a civilization because they have a way of life on the Animal Farm. They have a government which is the pigs, they have the commandments which tells them the way of how to live on the Animal Farm, and that all the animals work hardtop get their own food.

2. One character from Animal Farm is Boxer. Boxer is a horse that is hardworking and the strongest of the animals, but he is also gullible. He believes every problem can be solved with hard work, labor, and dedication. Because of this, he contributed the most to the windmill. He frequently says, "I will work harder!" and "Napoleon is always right!" Boxer is represents the working middle class of the farm.

Another character from Animal Farm is Napolean. After the animals overthrow Mr. Jones, the pigs declare themselves the leaders of Manor Farm, later changed to Animal Farm. He competes against Snowball for absolute leadership and control of the farm after defeating Mr. Jones. Eventually, he exiles Snowball, much to the animals' shock, and declares himself the absolute ruler of the Animal Farm. He slowly then gives himself into corrupted power and turns the whole farm into a communist civilization. Napolean represents the dictator in a communist government.

A third character from Animal Farm is Old Major. Old Major represents the spark of the revolution against the humans. Old Major is a boar and at the beginning of the story before he dies he tells the animals of his perfect vision of the animal farm being peaceful and not being controlled by any humans. In addition, he teaches the song "Beasts of England" to them as a reminder to cause a revolt against the humans.

In the beginning of the book they had a hierarchy government in which every person was ranked based upon their status and how much power and wealth they had; in this case the humans had the most authority. But after the humans were overthrown, the pigs Snowball and Napolean fight each other to gain the power of who gets to control the Animal Farm and soon the Animal Farm's government was a communist government.

3. Culture on the farm is that everyone has to work hard and that everyone is equal. The food and vacationing is shared equally among the animals except for the pigs. The animals live happily eating as much as they want and working hard to get their food without having any humans controlling them. One of their important parts of their everyday lives is sing the song "Beasts of England" as a reminder of how they overthrew the humans and to also raise the green flag that bears the horn and paw. Another important part of their lives is that all animals must know and follow the commandments. The commandments teach the animals how Animal Farm is organized. For example, the sheep always say one of the most important commandment "Four legs good, two legs bad" to emphasize how humans stand on two legs and animals stand on four. Last of all, all the animals listen to the pigs no matter what. They have no objection to them, because they are the leaders of the farm.

4. The animals can read and write by taking reading and writing classes by being taught by the pigs. The pigs first taught themselves to read from the books that Mr. Jones left and then they taught all the other animals to read. Some animals aren't able to read efficiently because some weren't interested in reading anything else but the commandments like the dogs and Benjamin. Two other animals that could not read very well are Boxer, Clover, and Mollie. They either learned the alphabet, but could not make the words come together, forgot parts of the alphabet, or that they just refuse to use any other letters than their own name.
