Apathy

Apathy is a state of indifference, where an individual has an absence of interest or concern to certain aspects of emotional, social, or physical life. The origin in Greek literally means “without feelings”. What is the cause of apathy? It is often a sense of powerlessness that causes people to withdraw from life. The ultimate cause is their attitude and the way they react to the changing world.

Student apathy is the fear of being ridiculed and rejected by your peers. This sometimes prevents students from candidly offering their opinions�. Apathy, can lead to lack of involvement in school work and other activities. This is particularly apparent for those in 20 to 25 age group. Here a quick example of apathy.

Jill is wanting to run for SGA President but, a few of her friends are advising her not to run in order to maintain a friendship with them. Jill decides to run anyway and towards the end of her campaign she begins to think she will ultimately lose this race for presidency and now she still wants her friends to accept her. Jill drops out of the race and goes back to hang out with her old friends, but they without any surprise reject her friendship. She end s up coming to school for the rest of the year depressed and doesn’t do any school work the teachers give her in class. The end result if this is her dropping out of school, she gets kicked out her parents house, and doesn’t make any effort to better herself.

There are not many ways to cure apathy , but I found one way that I think will be the most effective. Rather than to look In the future with dread recall many happy memories. Be a hard worker and have a positive attitude, don’t down yourself when there is a bad decision made in your life. These few things will help and motivate people do anything that they want to do instead of giving up and not wanting to live their life.

Because our society has so many problems, we feel overwhelmed. Our society is a social creature and needs one another for survival. So as a whole we need to be more involved and pull our own weight. The world is at a weekend state and in order to survive as we need to pull together and make our world a better place, for the up coming generations.
