Assisted Suicide

According to (Mosser, 2010), Physician-assisted suicide is when the patient is provided the means for terminating his or her life, but the patient, not the doctor, ends the life in question (Mosser, 2010). On the other hand, euthanasia is "good death", or right to die (Mosser, 2010). This only occurs when people want to die within a certain time or before it time them to die. The pressure of someone trying to avoid this decision regarding his or her love one life is only the beginning of finding a solution why someone would want to consider this method. Much of the disagreements to these methods are coming from a religious orientation. Susan Wolf article "Confronting Physician-assisted Suicide and Euthanasia" is an excellent example of this.

This learner thinks Susan Wolf made a very difficult decision when choosing to write about her father death. Wolf wrote about how she had been opposing legalizing physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia and how her father death made her rethink her way about physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia as a whole. He told his family that he no longer needed the feeding tube and the morphine pump because he knew death was ahead of him.

This learner recalls the time where their grandfather was at a stage like Wolf's father. The grandfather was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2008 and later fell in a stage where he had to go into the hospital. However, the only hospital that would take him was the VA hospital because he was a Veteran of the army and other hospital felt that the VA hospital had the best care for him. During his stay, the family was force to take action on his behalf. This Learner grandfather did not want to suffer any longer so he told his family to not let him suffer and if anything he did not want to be a burden on them. However, the family was faced with the decision of either let him suffer with the help of drugs or ask for assisted and let him past quickly. Just like Wolf, how can someone make a decision to let a love one die so quickly?

The family tried to assure their love one that the health professionals had the best solution to his problems and it was fine to keep using the drugs so that he would not have to suffer a painful death. In addition, just like Wolf's
