Living in Ancient Greece would've been a great experience, because everything we have now started from the ancient Greeks. We have learned about architecture from the Greeks through the Parthenon and other great buildings. We learned about science, medicine, philosophy and democracy from the Greeks. The ancient Greeks were a civilization before its time. The advancements they made, with the little technology they had was simply brilliant.
I would only live in ancient Greece if I were a member of the first or second class. There were four classes. The first class was composed of men who had five hundred bushels. The second class was made up of knights with horses. The third class were the teamsters who owned oxen and had two hundred bushels. The fourth class were the common laborers.
Living in the first or second class, you had money and had a high social status. For the fourth class, the common laborers, they were constantly pressured to produce there product and there were no excuses. If they didn't produce they would have to do whatever they could to give the upper class collateral. Sometimes the laborers would give the children as collateral; sometimes their wives and sometimes they would give their own lives as collateral.
For me, being a male, living in ancient Greece would not be too bad. If I were part of the upper class I wouldn't have to worry about selling myself to pay debts. Also, male's ruled the ancient world, and in ancient Greece it wasn't any different. Females would get married and could not leave the house. They would stay in the house their entire lives abiding to the male's every request. They were basically slaves; they had no rights or power.
However, in ancient Greece they created there own system of law. There were six thousand men who could be in the Assembly. These men met in the Pynx, which was an area just below the Acropolis. There philosophy was "Man is the measure of all things." This basically meant that your judgment would be determined by your social status. So the lower class would get much more serious sentences than if an upper class male performed the same crime. This is how the Greeks believed law should be set up and followed.
I would definitely like to live in ancient Greece because I would be a more knowledgeable man. I say this because everything we learn in school that the ancient Greeks taught us, I would be learning it first
