Every company has business areas or units that have specific duties and responsibilities. Some companies have more defined roles and responsibilities while other company's business units may be more broad and undefined. When a business or technical problem arises in a company, the company may decide they need a consultant to help them solve the problem.
The Tax unit is the unit that will be used in this paper. The Tax unit is a fairly new unit to the company and international tax is major problem in the company. There isn't enough knowledge of the International tax and which taxes should be billed and which taxes should not be billed as well as when these should be billed. We are a manufacturing company and sell major complex instruments. A consultant with international sales, logistics, tax, and manufacturing background and expertise will be needed. This consultant will be able to work with our IT system and educate our sales representative, customer service representatives, and tax representatives on when and which taxes to bill on each sale. The consultant will have to design a set of procedures and policy to follow when international tax is involved. To meet the expectations of the client and initial proposal should be drafted; items that should be included in the proposal should be the goal of the project, undertakings to meet the goals, time frame of when the project should be completed, definition of who is assigned what, and the projected budget (Ulvila, 2000). Both formal and informal communication is needed but will require reports on a weekly basis.
Preserving the client and consultant relationship is very important to the success of the relationship and project. When these relationships are satisfying and enjoying future business or additional projects are attainable. As with any relationship personal or business the quality of the relationship is the most important factor. There must be clear and constant communication between the client and the consultant. A great deal of effort and time must be put into gaining knowledge and understanding the overall business, the situation at hand, and the goal. The consultant and client should have regularly scheduled meetings at the beginning of the project to ensure the consultant is on the right track and addressing any and all questions or issues that may arise and then have periodic meetings to provide updates and address any new concerns or obstacles.
