The big bang theory

The big bang theory first originated from the early 1600's from a man named Galileo Galilei. The whole theory didn't unfold until the 20th century when powerful telescopes and other equipment allowed us to see the vastness of our galaxies as well as galaxies beyond ours. A priest by the name of George Lemaitre was the first to propose that the universe began with a big explosion. He claimed that the universe began with the explosion of a primeval atom. This proposal first came after he observed the red shift in distant nebulas. Years after Lemaitre's proposal the big bang theory got its first sign of justification. Edwin Hubble found experimental evidence-he found that distant galaxies in every direction are going away from us with speeds that were proportional to their distances.

The big bang theory was originally suggested to explain why far-off galaxies are drifting away from us at great speeds. The theory had also predicted that there would be some sort of existence of cosmic background radiation (the glow that would be left over from the explosion). The strongest verification of the big bang theory was received when this cosmic radiation was discovered in 1964 by Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, who later got a Nobel Prize for the discovery.

Common misconception

As there are many misconceptions about the big bang theory. For example people tend to think that the big bang theory was a giant explosion, yet experts say that there was no explosion but more of a expansion. More accurately than imagining a balloon popping and the contents being release, it is more like a balloon expanding ; an a microscopically small balloon expanding to the size of our universe
