Are they really Identical?
How can you exactly explain identical twins? Twins are siblings that are carried together in the womb and is born at the same time. There’s a stereotype that identical twins are just like one person but in two copies, they look alike, dress in matching outfits and start off liking and disliking the same things. But as they start to grow in their environment, despite their shared genetic components, identical twins are unique individuals. Though they do share some similarities, they also have many differences. The topic that I picked for this essay is non-less than identical twins. My family has three generations of identical twins, pretty crazy to believe but it actually happened. I’ve always been interested in identical twins, while I watch over my pair of identical twin cousins.
The things that I have witnessed is that identical twins start to have their own liking as they got older. One would be good at running and the other twin wouldn’t be as much, the other would like baseball and the other would like soccer. The article that I’m reading shows signs that identical twins start to develop on their own and pursue their individual interest. Like in class when we watch the video about the identical twins their genes and DNA were the same. But soon after they started to take a liking in doing an activity than what the other twin is interested in. The video in class is similar to what the article is making a point on how the environment can play a major role in the development of traits such as their personality, intelligence and the susceptibility to diseases. As the twins grow up in the same home environment, there is still some circumstances that would create differences in the identical twins. As the twins approach their teen years, they will thrive to establish dissimilar qualities in order to be an individual and create each of their own identities.
This article and what we learned in class more confidence on how identical twins aren’t as closely similar to one other than they are actually more different from each other. Remembering what we learned in class has helped me with this essay and made me understand the article more in depth about the twin’s DNA sequences, diseases that can cause, and the environmental changes between the twins.
