Abstract:

During lab, a step test experiment was performed in order to compare heart rates before and after exercise. As well as comparing the recovery rates between active and less active people. This was done using a platform/step in which these groups exercised on, for a set amount of time. By doing so, data was collected and identified that active people have a quicker recovery rate while inactive people do not.

Introduction:

This experiment was a basic fitness test. It resolved around the participants stepping on and off a standard height test. This experiment tested the subjects’ fitness by evaluating their heart rates before and after a four minute step exercise. The heart rates that were recorded after the first, second, and third minutes of exercise will be calculated and compared to evaluate the subjects fitness index. It was hypothesized that the subjects heart rates would increase after the four minute exercises and hypothesized that subjects who live a sedentary lifestyle will see higher spikes in heart rate after heart rate. While subjects who lead more active lifestyles will see a less drastic increase in heart rate. This experiment was important in order to be able to understand and compare the differences between people who exercise regularly than those who don’t.

Method:

The first step in this experiment is to organize everyone into groups based on how many hours of exercise they get per week. The next step is to measure everyones resting heart rates using a pulse oximeter. It would be wise to designate other participants in the groups to do certain jobs; such as recording the data and measuring the pulse rates. After, each individual in the group should step up and down on the step for four minutes at a constant rate. When the four minutes are up the subject(s) should should be measured. Additionally, the pulse rate should be measured at 2, 3, and 4 minutes after the test to figure out the recovery rate.

Results:
