Evaluation :
During this experiment there weren't a lot of problems because I was able to understand the topic and aim of it. But, I would encourage myself to increase the rate at which I work and to be able to concentrate whiles working. There were no faults in any equipment's in this experiment and neither were there any problem with my hypothesis. Evidence can be given from the table and graph above. At ten minutes the position of the meniscus was at 2.8cm and at twenty minutes it increased to 3.5cm, water clearly diffused into the dialysis tubing. On the other hand it think that we repeated the experiment we could improve it by repeating the experiment at least three times to see if all results were around the same which would have improved the reliability of the results.
Observation:
During the thirty minutes in which we were waiting, I observed that every ten minutes the water increased in the capillary tube meaning that the water from the beaker was diffusing into the dialysis tubing of concentrated sugar solution. This means that the dialysis tubing of concentrated sugar solution became a dilute solution (hypotonic). Evidence can be given from the table and graph above. At ten minutes the position of the meniscus was at 1.4cm and at twenty minutes it increased to 2.7cm which gives clarity and explanation to my hypothesis that was stated in the beginning of this work.
Conclusion :
To conclude, I found out that, the dialysis tubing put into the beaker filled with water diffuses into the dialysis tubing filled with the concentrated sugar. This is known as a dilute solution (hypotonic tonicity). This would mean that if the water diffused out of the dialysis tubing into the surroundings the solution would be hypertonic. Therefore, meaning that my expectations were accurate.
