Have one ever just sat and thought to oneself about how those machines in those big factories work, or who fix those big machines? Well it’s all simple as it sound it all comes from an industrial maintenance mechanic. Industrial maintenance mechanics and machinery maintenance workers maintain and repair factory equipment and other industrial machinery, such as conveying systems, and production machinery ("Career, Web). The world needs industrial maintenance workers in order to keep factories up and running. Almost everything in a factory is run by a maintenance worker, from small machines to the big machines it all is kept up or put together by a maintenance worker. Even the robots that you see in industry businesses are kept together by a maintenance mechanics. So if anyone ever thought about who would work on a robotic machine if it was to break down, the thinking need to stop because the answer is that an industrial maintenance worker would be there to fix it the problem. Industrial Maintenance mechanics will fall under the category with electrical engineers, electricians, repair workers, mechanist, plumbers, and welders. When going to college to be a maintenance you may find yourself taking class that may involves welding or either electrical engineering. All industrial maintenance does almost the same work. To be one of the industrial maintenance that is paid with a high salary you must have a fair amount of education certain skills and also be able to repair big robotic machines.
Careers that an industrial maintenance may also have will be a bricklayer. Bricklayers lay bricks, pre-cut stone, concrete blocks and other types of building blocks in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures. It may seem as if no maintenance is needed to lay bricks but a machine may be used to put the bricks in place or even carry the brick and an industrial maintenance will be needed to work on those things. Supervising is another job that an industrial maintenance may do. Almost all maintenance workers become supervisor after years of work experience. Supervisor may have many situations to deal with. A supervisor just watch over everyone else work and make sure everything is going fine. The only time that a maintenance supervisor does work is if a machine breaks down or need to be checked on. That is when the supervisor does work. Sometimes maintenance can maybe be a custodian, which is just clean up the place after everyone is done but people really will not like to just clean up after everyone has destroyed a place. All maintenance does not work in factories. A custodian don’t necessary has to work in a big factory. Most of industrial maintenance mechanics work in factories to upkeep machines in the factory. To some people it may be easy to do brick layering but to others brick layering can be hard, and the same apply to the rest of the jobs maintenance workers do. Just like standing on a ladder some people would not stand on one to save their life but some people love going up ladders and standing up on high objects. There are many things maintenance workers can do so the job should never get boring if you love what you are doing. The most fun about maintenance may come from the learning stages. Someone may have the most fun learning maintenance in college or high school because the when you are learning it is full of fun, unlike English or math were you have to do tons of book work.
“My mother's dad dropped out of the eighth grade to work. He had to. By the time he was 30, he was a master electrician, plumber, carpenter, mason, and mechanic. That guy was, to me, a magician. Anything that was broken, he could fix. Anybody anywhere in our community knew that if there was a problem, Carl was there to fix it.” (Mike Rowe). The quote had to be stated a while back because if you were to try and be maintenance at a company during the 21st century without a high school diploma you would most likely not get the job especially if one is not certified. Just like all other jobs in order to work one must have a high school diploma or some kind of diploma that it is equivalent to a high school diploma. The same rules apply with being an industrial maintenance mechanic unless you plan to do more complex work then you will have to be certified or licensed. If you plan to further your education with maintenance then you could go to a college or a trade school you will be required at Los Angeles Trade-Tech Community College to take Electrical Construction and Maintenance, Electrical Construction and Engineering. One will have to be Basic Electrician Trainee, Electric Motor Control, National Electrical Code, and Programmable Logic Controllers. Of course there are skills that you are expected to had to be maintenance because there is not a business that plan to hire an inexperienced worker with no skill. The skills you must have in order to be an industrial maintenance mechanic are skills such as computer skills, mechanic skills, and troubleshooting skills. If you have those skills and a high school diploma you meet the requirements to be an industrial maintenance. However, you have to have On-the-job- training where a maintenance mechanic will get certified by the Industrial Maintenance Institute or the Certified Maintenance Professional. The average salary that a industrial maintenance mechanic make is $49690 a year,("49-9041,Web) which is actually a lot when you just sit on the job and only work when a robotic machine breaks down, or change oil on a machine so that it will not break down.
Some industrial maintenance make more and some make less that is just an average of what all maintenance mechanics make. As maintenance you can work as a full time work or either you can be an on call worker which is when you work when a person calls you to fix something and you can charge them your own price per hour. For the most part, maintenance works on a full time job. The average salary for millwrights and industrial maintenance mechanics is $49690 again half make more and half make less but the lower ten percent of maintenance make on average $29,020 a year ("Become, Web). The highest paid maintenance make $25 per hour while on the lower end the lowest paid maintenance make about $11 per hour("49-9041,Web). For someone to work at a factory for 15 years and supervise other workers they would make more than someone who is just coming out of college and has no experience. Most likely in industrial maintenance businesses the worker with the most experience gets the most money. For example a person worked at McClain for 25 years and is almost ready to retire will be making over 50-60 thousand dollars a year and a person that is just coming from college with a degree in Industrial Maintenance will only be making about 20 thousand dollars in a year. The range for the salary of an industrial maintenance is very far apart as you can see.
