Burj Al Arab is one of those magnificent structures in Dubai, it is a five star hotel but the service they provide is more in the range of seven stars. But such luxurious service doesn't come so cheap, it is one of the most expensive hotels around the world. It is built on a remote 280m from Jumeirah beach and it can be reached by a special bridge. The construction of the building commissioned by Zayed Bin Sultan is estimated to cost 650 millions of US dollars. Sultan wanted his design to resemble and Arab galley that is sailing on the Persian Sea. His demand was that the building be built on sand and stone. This was the first time such a unique project like this was being pursued. There is a big risk that the island is flooded due to unpredictable weather, the proximity of the tectonic plates, sea currents and winds. Sultan's decision to not increase the height of the construction allowed designers to use hollow concrete block for the first time in the world. This thereby reduced the strength of waves and prevented erosion of the island significantly.
