If you were in a management position and there was no one above you and you had served your whole term, what would you do? Would you say I have done my part and throw in the towel? Or would you strap up and go at it again? Had you really made a difference in the people's lives that you were leading, and were they appreciative of it? George Bush and Abraham Lincoln were two men that selected the second choice. They were both people that were very influential in the United States past and in the future. These two men both did such an extraordinary job in their first term as president that they were elected to serve a second term. Both of the terms of Bush and Lincoln started with their presentation of their inaugural speech. In these two speeches they both talk about the past and the problems they faced and the solutions to theses problems. There are other similarities in the two speeches but I believe that there are even more differences; the main one which caught my eye would be the length. Lincoln's second inaugural speech was short and to the point where as Bush rambled on for a couple more pages.
Abraham Lincoln and George Bush are both second term presidents that gave inaugural speeches. They both gave them at the end or during a war and were trusted by many Americans in this county. Our American people must have really trusted these two presidents to reelect them during a war. They must have felt that they did a good job and that they were still capable of leading the nation's number one country. A main difference between Lincoln and Bush and their speeches is the time in which they were given. Lincoln gave his speech in 1865 and in 2005 (one hundred and forty years later) Bush gave his speech.
Being 140 years apart there is going to be many differences in the how the two speeches were given. In Lincoln's time he was talking to only one race and gender of people, which would be the white land owning men; being as they were the only ones allowed to vote at the time. Lincoln also had lots more uneducated people; this means that he could not talk as technical as Bush could do in present day. Bush had to be more careful in what he said though because he was talking to men, women, blacks, whites, Spanish and to many other races of people. At the same time both Lincoln and Bush were talking to other government officials, so they could not bore them.
