Executive Summary

The report details the decisions needed to be made by Richard Fraser, Vice President of operations at Bradstone Properties Inc., a well-respected hotel company owned by Michael Parish. Decisions need to be made with regards to how to handle the problematic manager, Joseph Parish. Joseph's Managerial skills are serving to be detrimental to the companies reputation. Since Joseph is Michael Parish's brother careful consideration must be made on how to handle the situation. As Richard Fraser, a specific short-term action plan will be put in place to ensure the success of Bradstone properties and keeping the well being of Joseph in mind.

➢ Arrange meeting with Joseph and I, Richard to contribute ideas to better Joseph as an employee.

➢ Written warning will be implemented on Joseph

➢ A document prepared by Joseph to outline exactly how he will improve

➢ Goals set in places that are attainable for all managers including Joseph

➢ If none of these are met Joseph will be properly dismissed.

Michael's opinion on his employees is very high and he is very supportive. The culture within is one of a family business, but the structure depends largely on the manager of each separate hotel. Achievement-oriented leadership style is most common, because he sets goals for his employees, and expects them to perform to a high standard. This is very effective with employees who construct high motivation but is ineffective to employees who lack motivation. Participative style would be best if used in Bradstone Properties Inc. Supportive leadership is also very common within Joseph's managerial skills. However a more appropriate style would be a directive type style. Legitimate power is not working as well as it should therefore a combination of coercive and reward power would be best within the new structure.

The real problem within Bradstone, is the deeper organizational issues, nonetheless it must be improved. A careful considered action plan is to be implemented with specific steps, ensure customer satisfaction and improvement to Joseph. The meetings organized are to specifically motivate and guarantee that Joseph is aware that changes need to be made with regards to his performance.
