I have always been a huge animal lover ever since I was a young child. I have owned multiple animals throughout my life. Currently I have three full-grown dogs. Although both animals are very loving house pets, they have many different traits. In this essay I plan to compare and contrast the similarities and differences between cats and dogs. After living with them, I have noticed that although there are many obvious similarities between dogs and cats, there are also some important differences.

Cats and dogs have several similarities, both of them are domesticated animals kept as pets. They eat meat, mice and never eat vegetables (unless it is my dog because she eats everything including vegetables). They require love and affection and they will show love and affection in return. They can both be destructive to your furniture, along with possibly bringing fleas into your home. You will have vet bills for both species of animal along with an outrageous food bill for them, meaning the more you have or the bigger the breed the higher the food bill.

The first difference is that with dogs they enjoy going places with their owners, they obey and do tricks on command, where cats don't really do tricks they are would rather chase a toy mouse or a string and they definitely don't like riding in the car. The second difference is that dogs need a fenced in yard and have the possibility of biting someone if provoked, where cats on the other hand may scratch someone if provoked because they would rather be left alone. The final thing is that dogs are very loyal and protective animals that need lots of attention. Dogs will never leave their owner alone when in danger; Dogs always remember their owner; even though their owner died, with cats being loners they will often wonder or take off for several days at a time. There is another difference between cats then dogs is cats need a litter box, which has to be cleaned regularly and besides being independent they won't dig up your yard or garden, where you still have to clean up when they go to the bathroom dogs use the outdoors.

So in conclusion owning a house pet can be an enjoyable experience, if a potential owner takes time before purchasing the animal to research what type of care will be needed for the type of animal he or she chooses. Dogs and cats are among the most popular pets; however, their care is drastically different, obviously they do have similarities between the
