City Covered in Flood

Our country today is facing numerous problems. Flash flood is a common disaster especially in California. The devastation caused by the killer quake, typhoons and flood are still very evident. Mother nature’s strongest asset, water, can be compared with a double-edged sword to mankind.

As I roam around San Jose, I could witness how the water rises easily as it slowly destroys our lovely city. The heavy rain pours continuously. Rivers and dams overflow which also causes the flood. The people who lives in low areas are already flooded. People rush to pack their important things so they could evacuate to a safer place. More than 20 people are reported to be dead because of drowning and 5 people are in critical condition.

As I walk around to get more information about the people affected by the flood, a crying mother approaches me. She asks for help because her child is in a critical condition. Her 5 year old child got drowned due to not having enough knowledge on what’s happening around her. She might thought that the water around their house is a pool so she descended into flood not knowing it is dirty and dangerous. Good thing her mother saw her so she was rushed into the hospital.

Flood is extremely dangerous. It has the potential to destroy our city. Flood affects everything, the people, roads, houses and automobiles. All schools, supermarkets and malls are close. There are no public transportation because roads can’t be use and cars are broken. People become homeless because their houses are destroyed by the flood. Our government deploys police, firemen and emergency volunteers to help the affected. A flood warning is already given to people to instruct them to move to a higher ground or take immediate precaution to avoid drowning or to minimize damage to property.

Truly, natural calamities are unpredictable. One may not know when will it come and when will it happen but more importantly, everyone must have to be prepared at all times so as to take necessary precautions on what should be done.
