Ethical Dilemmas Paper

Women have fought hard to gain equal rights in America, although being a minority and fighting hard to have the equal rights of a man, no woman should have to be told what she can or can not do with her own body. Congress this year has passed a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks.

This new act also wants victims that have claimed raped or have been sexually assaulted to provide the police report that shows proof of the rape. This bill also wants the female to seek counseling within 48 hrs. of incident. This is very unethical due to patient confidentiality and a woman’s personal privacy.

Earlier this year the "Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,” was rejected when several of the women in congress rebelled against it. The outcome may seem unfair due to men and women opinions on protecting the fetus, not the woman bearing the child. Being pregnant or carrying a child may be a burden to some, or a miracle for others. Whatever side of the situation one may be in, it can be rather difficult and overbearing. This is a life being created; no one should have the authority to choose what any woman can do.

There are many different circumstances where abortions may be the last resort, or the only result left. The womb a child comes from belongs to the woman that has carried the child for 9 months and birth the child. Some woman may not have had a planned child; some pregnancies do come from rape or sexual assaults. The pain alone and ridicule these women endure may be unbearable but having to raise a child from horrific acts is so unfair and unjust.

Financial situations may cause a woman to abort a child. Times are hard and caring for a child now a days is very costly. A relationship that was okay could of ended up bad and both decided to break it of, later to find out this woman is carrying the child of someone she is no longer with. Why put a child through the suffering of trying to survive in this low minimum wage world?

There can be many alternatives by simply letting the woman decide what she wants for herself. What a woman chooses to do with her body and whom she does it with is no ones business but hers. Seeking counsel first and seeing what options are available to the woman is another alternative that can be used. Creating a moral support group or help line can also guide a woman on what she would like to do with the unborn fetus. Some woman carries babies for the woman that don’t have a chance of ever conceiving.

No bill should be able to decide that for any woman in this world, young girls also end up pregnant. That can put her and her parents in a hard place. But being able to have that option can be a relief to them if the daughter doesn’t want the child. One thing that can happen are accidents.
Although people may use protection sometimes accidents can occur, in this circumstance one can become pregnant. What choice or option can the women chose? This is a very unethical way to impose a bill on the rights and privacy of what women do with their body. What freedom do we have if bills are being passed to show us different? What if there was something terribly wrong with the fetus and the mother prefers to abort it for medical reasons?
