Many Native Americans protest Columbus Day for a few reasons. One reason is that
when Columbus was in the West Indies he mistreated and enslaved Native Americans.
Another reason is that when Columbus left the islands he left men there who stole and did
other wrong things which made the Native Americans mad so the Native Americans
killed them. Lastly, besides Columbus other Spanish explorers that became involved
Native Americans had made them slaves and killed them for riches and power. Those are
Are some of the reasons why people protest Columbus Day.
First off, the main reason that Native Americans protest Columbus day is that he
mistreated and enslaved them back in 1492. They wanted to know why someone
would make slaves to a group of people just because Columbus found the land these
people inhabited, which was Hispaniola. Also, that Europeans would mistreat people
because they were lesser then them. Therefore, it made the Native Americans angry that
people celebrate a day of a person who did this to their ancestors. It was also what
Columbus's sailors did when they mistreated them that got them mad.
They always stole from the Native Americans and did other bad things. All of those
things made the Native Americans mad enough to kill the sailors before Columbus went
back to their native land. Also, Columbus thought he had made friends with the native
Americans which wasn't true. The Native Americans didn't like that they were being
treated horrible in there own land, and neither do the Native Americans of today. Many
of them now are still against the celebration of Columbus Day because of more of the
explorers
