Communication, the bridge for China to the world

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. It's a great honor to stand here to present my speech. The topic of my speech is" Communication, the bridge for China to the world."

First of all, I'd like share with you the experience of my friend who is now a freshman in New York University. She told me her French roommate was shocked at the fact that Tibet is a part of China. My friend wanted to explain something but found herself lack of potent arguments to persuade her roommate. When she tried to seek support from her classmates, a local boy simply asked:" What is Tibet? Is it a place?" Admittedly, China is now thriving and Chinese people scatter almost every corner around the world. However, the present international community is still deficient in knowledge about our country. Many foreigners are ignorant of our history, and even territory. Under such circumstances, communication is integral.

Unlike mere speaking, communication is embedded with message that one wants to get across to the other, which indicates an underlying requirement that communicator must have full understanding about the message he wants to deliver. Similarly, when chances come that we can communicate with foreigners about China, we must first equip ourselves with thorough knowledge about it. In this sense, communication encourages Chinese people to learn more about their country so that a more comprehensive image of China can be presented.

Besides, communication leads to empathy, consensuses, and connection. It's pleasant to see that China now takes a more active part in multilateral communications, such as the recent G20 Summit held in Hangzhou. It is definitely a good opportunity for China to promote itself and to introduce its culture to international community. In this way, foreigners can not only better understand our country, but also will be willing to build up cooperation with China on the basis of mutual respect and benefit.

China is now taking on a significant role and appearing frequently on the stage of global village, but to make people around the world acquainted with this great nation still has a long way to go. I believe that communication can function as such a bridge to connect China with the world, and the responsibility as communicators is laid on us Chinese people. That's all about my speech, thanks for listening.
