Comparison of Three Websites

1.

American Cancer Society

Organization- Overall the American Cancer Societies website has a professional look to it and overall it is well organized website that millions of people travel to all the time in order to find information that was once hidden.

Layout

In the first row of the website there is a phone number that is there and it is in a green color to get the readers attention. This phone number is very important because when the number is called it has vital information about things that could be done if the website is not adequate enough. The next row down has a big title that says “The Great American Health Check” This is the most popular part to the website or it would not be at the top of the website. Also the author wants this to be the first thing that people visit when they visit the site. The next row down has four different boxes one for more information that could be received by family members and friends. People do not know a lot about cancer so this is where they can go to get more information. The next boxes have information on cancer, a location in the area, and how to join the fight. Under these boxes are rows on quick links and how to find information the fastest. There are mini pictures and stories that can be checked out. All of the information is organized in accordance to importance of each. The top of the website is most important then under that. Also they are in order of how popular each item is.

Visuals

Throughout the Website there are pictures of people and in about every picture the people in them are smiling. This gives the people hope, hope that they will be able to fight cancer and beat cancer. There is a picture for every text article or story which will draw the people in to reading the story or article.

Text

The text that is on the website is more professional and the text is directed toward a more mature audience. Usually people who get cancer are older and I am not saying that children do not get cancer but people who go onto the ACS Website are going to be educated people who are going to expect higher educated text.

MTV

Organization- Unlike the ACS website this website is a more informal website. The website is well organized and millions of people visit the website to find out about the Music industry.

Layout

In the first row there is an index from a to z and it is a very easy way to find out about your favorite artist. There is a drop down link of different text in order to find information that is scattered throughout the website. Underneath that there is a picture that goes through a series of pictures of celebrities and there are stories that can be clicked on in order to read about each celebrity. There are columns that have the top stories about the music business and celebrities with ties to the music scene. Under all of this the website goes into talking about the shows on MTV during the day.

Text

The text is more aimed toward younger people. MTV is a place that people go to watch music videos and the majority of the people are younger. There is a text next to each picture in order to draw the reader in to reading each story or article.

Visuals

There are a lot of pictures throughout the website and the majority of the pictures are about celebrities. The pictures are there to draw the viewers in because they are celebrities. Like the ACS the pictures draw people in to reading the articles.

American Chemical Society

Organization- This website is a small website and has a lot more text then it does pictures. The website is considerably smaller then that of the ACS and MTV.

Layout- The American Chemical Society is a small website that has a Row of word drop down menus that enable the viewer to find information that is scattered throughout the website. There is a box in the Middle that contains News and Research and it also contain two of the very few pictures on the website. On the right there is a column that talks about the latest meeting that is coming up in 2008. That is the most important part of the website other than the News and Research. The website is not that exciting and it is very bland looking.

Visuals- There are not that many pictures on the website and that is because not many people want to see pictures about science. When there are pictures they are very good pictures and they are drawing the reader in.
