Detailed Plan

All of this work is based only on literature review and finding answers from the existing literature.

Students (working in groups of 4) will be required to choose one of the above mentioned topics in the first week and then submit a short report (2-4pages) answering the following questions in Week 4: (10%)

Why is this a relevant issue?

What are the important elements and phenomena?

What literature resources are available? List at least six.

What will be the key steps (pointers only) to achieve the answer to your question?

Feedback will be provided on the submitted reports by Week 5 and if one topic is chosen more than once (in the same section), we may ask students to choose a different topic.

As soon as the reports and topics are finalized, students should start working in detail on their selected projects. There will be a presentation (mainly answering the above stated questions but in more detail and with more references) in Week 10 (week starting 27/3/17), which will be assessed and attended by senior staff members. (20%)

Students will be required to submit first draft of their paper including an abstract, an introduction to the problem, literature review (with references to the sources at the end of the paper), their assessment of the data and their own conclusions in Week 12. Each paper is expected to review the state of the art on the topic and do some independent analysis and assessment that add insight to the topic. (20%)

A one to one interview will be conducted with each group in Week 13 where their draft versions will be discussed. Feedback will be given and also the involvement of each student in the project will be assessed. (10%)

A final version of the paper will have to be submitted (taking into account all the feedback given) by the end of Week 15. There will be no extensions in any case. (40%)

Note: All activities related to the project will be assessed and marked individually.

Guidelines for reports:

The most important rule for these papers is quality over quantity. Any report or the final article should follow the following general formatting guidelines:

Arial or Times New Roman font

1.5x spacing

12 pt font size

1" margins

Include a title page with project title and roll numbers of all students

At the end of each document, present a table stating the contribution of each group member in that work (in terms of percentages)

Include a bibliography

Bibliography should follow the guidelines you have received in preparation of thesis
