Today we did something really different, we actually watched a movie called "Cry Freedom". In the first class of this course professor Adam had already told us that we would watch this film which was one of his most favorite movies, this movie was quite relative with what we we've been taught about the newspaper bias.

In the beginning of the movie, we knew that Steve Biko was the leader of blacks in South Africa. But professor Adam told us that what he learnt in his childhood was that Biko was a crucial and violent fighter as what was reported in the newspaper at that time. But actually the fact was diametrically opposite, he was a peaceful leader. The media was controlled by the government with strong bias, so "facts" were not always "facts".

In this movie, there was another very important figure---Donald Woods---a UK journalist who was working on a news story depicting the demolition of a slum in South Africa. Then the story unfolded with those two guys. Donald Woods changed his attitude towards Biko and then they became good friends.

Today we only finished half of the movie, and it stopped when Biko was arrested by the police and then died under the police's violence.

Can't wait to see the rest of it!
