I met a colleague called Bosco, he was came from England .During the chatting, I discovered that he have lot of different cultures with us. I would like to like to write about the different on eating habits, living, taboo and festivals.
First, I would like to talk about the eating habit in England; British eating habits are depending on a simple, and nutrition meal. Breakfast is usually porridge of milk or a cup of fruit juice, toast with butter, bacon, sausage, eggs, the yogurt and cereal. At noon, the children eat lunch at school, adults at lunch on the work of the vicinity to buy a sandwich, a cup of coffee. Only to the weekend, the British will have the rich dishes. Usually the main course is meat, such as grilled chicken, roast beef, fish and so on. Wide variety of vegetables, like cabbage, fresh peas, potatoes, carrots and so on. Vegetables in general are no longer processed, packed in a tray, poured from the supermarket to buy ready-made sauce will be consumed. In addition, the drink rake with a meal for local and foreigners have a big difference. Local people drink beer, water and soft drinks while the meal, the British drink water., juice and wine while had a meal. After the main course there is always have the dessert, such as cooking fruit, fruit pudding, cheese, ice cream.
Afternoon Tea "almost become an indispensable Englishman living habits, even when we met, and some have to temporarily adjourn and eat immediately ,about the drinks, they like pour in cold milk or a cup of fresh lemon, with some sugar. And about the food, its more famous there is Victoria-style, the content can be said to be comprehensive, including all kinds of snacks, cakes, fruit tarts and sandwiches
During the meal, there are similar habits with us.We would like to watch TV, reading newspaper and documents and talking with people when eating with our friends and family to share about what happen during the day. For the British, they will eating and would like to watching TV and reading. during the meal. A lots of them will talking with person , Dinner on the daily lives of English is also the most important part of the meal, their choice is usually late to wait foe friends to come , and all they talked while eating in order to promote friendship between meals, and meal dinner for them may take several hours
After chatting this part, I discovered that I had many wrong concerts about the British image in my mind. Before the meeting with Bosco, I thought that they like the fast food very much and they would spend many times for their meals, although they spend time more than us, they have not eat the meal for a half of the day and have not have the rich meal everyday. I have this wrong concept because I have watched many TV shows about the British families; they always have the rich meal, so I thought that they have rich meal every night .Also Bosco talk to me that the British love hand-made sandwiches, because of its simple and nutrition, the big reason of not eating fast food is the meal was very expensive, around $60 HKG for each meal.
Also, Bosco had told me about the living habit while some friends or family members invite to be a guest in their home. We should be punctual for appointments, and some small gifts should be prepared to master early, if not, it may be considered that you are impolite. Also, they should be chatting with the master after dinner, if you leave immediate when finish the meal, it is very impolite. In additions, quietly eating and eating all the food in your plate is polite behavior. Knife and fork parallel on the plate to indicate that you have eaten. If you're not eating, knife and fork to separate was "eight"(CHINESE WORD) shape on the plate. While the meal, British people like to chat with other .Also, when eating big mouth, even if it is to speak, is impolite. The trick is: to eat and talk alternately; only put a small amount of food to the mouth. If you have big mouth, please block it with one hand.
Secondly, I chatted with Bosco about the dressing, he told me that they are particular about the wearing, while they visit the elder member of a family and the clients or has the banquets, they will wear the formal dressing, in the summer, you can not wear a suit, wearing short-sleeved shirt, but also have a tie. However, they are patterned tie is taboo, because the bands may be considered a tie like military uniform or student uniform.
Thirdly, I want to talk about the taboo in United Kingdom. While the chatting, Bosco suddenly remind me for something that do not called our Boss is the "English", because our boss is come from Scotland, so I must be carefully. Bosco told me that the "British" means "England", and you may contact the guests or persons, who may be in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, and "British" was what the British were able to make all happy.
