Cultural Experience
The event I attended was Indian Night at school and it was so much fun. The dancing and singing at the beginning was very entertaining. All the girls were dressed in their native clothing and the music all though it was very different in some ways I found similarities to American music. I guess I thought the ideals and lyrics would be completely different from the music I listened to but it was very similar. There was one part in the song that said, " I to sexy for you baby," I could not help but smile, because most of the songs I hear say the same things. One of the men sung the national anthem for India, and it was really good. He had so much feeling when he was singing and a lot of pride for his country. It made me have a greater respect for their culture because of how much love I felt.
Another thing that was really good was the food that they served. It was all vegetarian and at first I was like this is not going to be good. I eat a lot of meat and I just could not envision a meal without any meat. I thought it was going to be really gross, but surprisingly it was amazing. It made me have a greater appreciation for their food and allowed me to become more open to other cultures food. The hospitality they showed before we ate was really nice to. They allowed us to eat first which was really different from what I'm used to. In my family or at events I go to if I'm the guest I usually eat last or it is every man for themselves.
Attending this event really gave me a greater appreciation for Indian culture. I'm glad I attended the event because even though it was for class I really did enjoy myself. This also enhanced by appreciation for World Literature, I think it is great to learn about different cultures. It gives me a way to escape my every day life and have some fun in a totally different way.
