Cyberbullying, a serious problem among teens, has increased for the past several years on a local and global scale, with the use of electronic devices.

Electronic devices have allowed bullying for kids these days an easy task to commit on one another. The increase of the use of cell phones, computers, and other devices to harass or bully someone has affected many kids harshly. According to the I-Safe Foundation, over 25 percent of adolescents and teens have been bullied repeatedly through their cell phones or the Internet.

"It's so common in this generation for bullying over social media to occur," freshman Jordan Taylor said. Taylor currently attends West Orange High School. "It has become a part of life it seems, unfortunately. One day two people can be best friends and the next day they aren't after unfriendly words were spewed over the internet on something, in most cases minute in importance." Taylor added.

Cyberbullying is most frequent in teenagers, primarily because of the large percentage of kids who have access to the internet. Without the face to face confrontation kids are more liable to bully other people and in some situations they don't even realize what they are doing due to the fact they are unable to see how this is making another person feel.

"The internet makes it easy. You have no idea how the other person feels until they actually express it, if they decide to. You persist on with what you're doing and there are practically no consequencences," said Ashlei Rodriguez, a ninth grader at West Orange.

The motivations behind being a bully are far from scarce. The reasons range from lacking attention at home, transition from being bullied to becoming the bully, social acceptance issues, and even the need to feel empowered by belittling others.
