The 2005 article “Upgrades: Without Downtime” lists seven tips of easing the pain of upgrading. Select three tips, and explain why they are important.
The first tip I chose is "Build and test" - Building a test bed of the real proposed network is a good idea where that you can identify compatibility issues between devices and peripherals, and also cables. This should be done before you implement them into the maze of a real world environment. It also allows you to ensure that all of the devices and actual cabling you have received is functional. If some cases, identifying compatibility issues could mean having to use different products, which that product could have different power requirements or even cabling limitations, both of which would change the final install. Think of the money lost in labor alone if you implemented the cabling then had to change it do to a device or peripheral compatibility issue
Build a Modular Network - As the needs of users grow, the needs for a network needs to be fully upgraded. Making sure a network is fully upgradeable will help all the users that there future needs will be met. Having a network parallel will allow the company to make changes witho shutting down the network completely.
Do a phased rollout - It is possible, so changes can be easily rolled back if neccessary." Doing a phased rollout will allow the users and developers the chance to concentrate on the performance of small sections of the overall system and associated software and hardware.
