De Beers Diamonds is a billion dollar industry which means that the company has a lot at stake. De Beers was established back in 1888 existing more than a century. Having mines in Botswana, Canada, Namibia and South Africa. The products DeBeers products are diamonds not just any diamonds Grade A diamonds but in the diamond industry the best grade of diamonds start at D grade finishing at Z grade which then would place De Beers at one of the best in the diamond game.
The product is a natural resource and needs natural environment to produce. There are two main resources are water and electricity. Water is a high priority within the business and the second is electricity direct fuel including diesel it accounts for the energy at 60-70 percent.
De Beers engages with a broad range of stakeholders from partners, governments and local communities on a daily basis. De Beers depends on the permission and support of the government, communities and non- governmental organizations. These entities help to address challenges that the organization can't do alone. De Beers state that they listen to their stakeholders through survey, round table discussion, conference calls, and one on one meeting. De Beers seek to understand how they are doing and what can make them better. The three main key stakeholders I choose were government, non-government and the community and these are just some of the key roles and relationship to the company.
In the country of Botswana, Namibia, and Tanzania are undertaken in partnership with the government. Debswana and Botswana are 50% owned by the government. The safety for the mine workers are very important especially that they are have to work in tight quarters, noisy and dusty environments underground mining is dangerous because the workers take the risk of falling rocks and flooding. There is also marine mining where the duties have to operate in cold sea water and take additional risk.
DeBeers provides their employee with identifying risk regular training and safety meetings to all employees. Safety Risk Management Programs "It incorporates a standard set of tools and methods for operators across the industry to apply. Safety knowledge is shared between companies to raise industry standards as a whole and to achieve consistent approaches that employees moving from one mining company to another recognize and readily adhere to." DeBeers is serious about the ethics practices of the company they believe in honesty and legal manner they also have a policy whistleblower policy.
